Dominio do Bibei blends Godello, Albariño, Doña Blanca and Treixadura for Lapola in the terraced Ribeira Sacra. Seven months in barrel and six in steel build a textured Galician white of white peach, pear and lemon with beeswax and a nutty edge.
Description
Lapola is a white blend from D.O. Ribeira Sacra in Galicia, made by Dominio do Bibei from Godello, Albariño, Doña Blanca and Treixadura. Ribeira Sacra is one of Spain's steepest wine regions, its vines worked by hand on terraces cut into slopes above the river. The soils are largely slate and granite, which drain sharply and give the wines a firm mineral line, while the river moderates the continental climate. The blend brings four Galician grapes together: Godello for body, Albariño for aromatics and acidity, and Doña Blanca and Treixadura for texture and floral detail. The wine spends seven months in a range of barrels and six months in stainless steel. The barrel time and its slow oxygen exchange build texture and a nutty depth, while the steel portion keeps the fruit fresh and the whole in balance. The wine is bright straw gold. The nose is textured, with white peach, pear and lemon over beeswax and a mineral note. The palate is broad and layered, the fruit backed by fresh acidity and a saline, nutty finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a larger white glass. It suits white fish, shellfish, roast chicken and hard nutty cheeses.
