Description
Dominio del Bendito Las Sabias 2023 is a red from D.O. Toro in Zamora, made from Tinta de Toro by Dominio del Bendito, a project Antony Terry began in 2004 to capture the character of the region. The estate farms 14.5 hectares organically, working in a traditional, low-intervention way. Toro is a hot, dry, high-altitude region on the western Castilian plateau, and its local strain of Tempranillo ripens to high sugar and dense colour, giving a powerful, full-bodied style with firm tannin. The 15 percent alcohol reflects that warmth, balanced by the freshness the altitude preserves. The wine is aged for 14 months in French and American oak barrels, which round the tannins through slow oxygen exchange and add warm spice and a savoury frame to the ripe fruit. The wine is a deep, dense red. The nose shows candied red and dark fruit, warm spice and aromatic herbs. The palate is full bodied and structured, with firm tannin, ripe fruit and a long, warming finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant. It stands up to grilled and roast red meat.
