Description
Dominio D'Echauz produce this clarete in D.O. Ribera del Duero, from vineyards in the northeasternmost part of the region at close to 1,000 metres above sea level. At that altitude the growing season is cool and the diurnal range is wide, so Garnacha Tinta ripens slowly and keeps high natural acidity and fresh, delicate aromatics. Clarete is a traditional Spanish pink style, paler and lighter than a deeply coloured rosado. The wine sees a short skin maceration for its gentle colour, then spends four months in oak barrels, a brief ageing that adds a little texture and roundness through slow oxygen exchange without taking over the fresh fruit. The colour is a pale, clear pink, radiant and bright. The nose leads with refreshing citrus, white peach and fresh red berry, with a delicate floral note. On the palate it is dry, light and crisp, with red fruit, a lemony edge and a clean, high-altitude freshness at 14% alcohol. This is a wine for early drinking, best within a year or two of the vintage. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It suits white fish, shellfish and lighter dishes.
