Description
Le Melonix is the immediate, everyday Muscadet from Domaines Landron, a family estate that has farmed its Loire vineyards biodynamically since 2006 and works each plot separately to show the difference of the soils. Made from Melon de Bourgogne in AOC Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, it is a natural wine, fermented with native yeasts and made with minimal intervention to keep the fruit clear and direct. This is the estate's youthful expression, built for freshness rather than the long lees ageing of its single-vineyard cuvées, so it is bottled to capture the crunch and mineral bite of the grape. Melon de Bourgogne is prized less for aroma than for its ability to transmit soil, and the cool Atlantic climate of the western Loire holds a high, clean acidity in the fruit. The colour is pale with green tints. The nose is fresh and understated, with lemon, green apple, pear and white flowers over a briny, saline note. The palate is dry, light and taut, the acidity carrying a crisp, salty finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 9 degrees, ideally young.
