Description
Domaine Weinbach is a wholly family-run estate in Alsace, set at the base of the Grand Cru Schlossberg hill. Cuvée Colette is named in tribute to the family and made from Riesling, the grape many consider Alsace's finest. The vines grow on a mix of granite, sandstone and limestone soils that give the wine its mineral cut and clarity, while the region's dry, sunny mesoclimate ripens the fruit fully while the cool nights hold on to acidity. Farming is biodynamic. The wine is aged for ten months in old oak, vessels well past imparting any wood flavour, which allows a slow maturation on the lees that adds a little breadth without masking the grape. The 2023 is pale and bright. The nose is precise and aromatic, showing lemon and citrus peel alongside white peach, white flowers and a hint of apricot. The palate is dry and taut, its acidity firm and its finish clean, stony and saline. This is a wine of tension and length rather than weight. Serve well chilled at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass.
