Description
Domaine Weinbach is a family-run Alsace estate at the foot of the Schlossberg hill, celebrated for expressive, terroir-focused whites. This Gewurztraminer comes from the Furstentum Grand Cru, a warm, well-exposed site whose limestone and marl soils and sunny aspect ripen the grape fully while retaining aromatic lift. Farming is biodynamic. Gewurztraminer is one of the most perfumed of all white grapes, and Alsace is its spiritual home. The wine is fermented and aged for ten months in large old foudres, oak vessels big enough that they impart no woody flavour but allow a slow, gentle maturation on the lees that adds texture and depth. The 2023 is deep gold. The nose is powerful and floral, showing rose and white peach alongside ginger, apricot and orange peel. The palate is broad and richly textured, carrying honey and warm spice with just enough acidity to keep it fresh through a long finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a generous glass.
