The Pinard family in Bue makes Cuvee Flores, a Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire, part aged in barrel. Flinty limestone soils give it lemon, green apple and elderflower over a chalky, mineral core and a long, dry finish.

Description
Domaine Vincent Pinard sits in the village of Bue, a few kilometres from Sancerre in the Loire, where the Pinard family has grown vines for many generations. Cuvee Flores is Sauvignon Blanc from this classic appellation, where the limestone and flinty soils are central to the style. The cool continental climate and calcareous soils give slow ripening, high acidity and the flinty, mineral character Sancerre is known for. Part of the wine is aged in barrel, which adds a little texture and breadth through lees contact and gentle oxygen exchange while keeping the fruit and minerality to the fore. This restrained handling rounds the wine without giving it obvious oak. The colour is pale with green tints, and the nose shows lemon, green apple and elderflower over a smoky, flinty note. The palate is dry and taut, with citrus and orchard fruit driven by fresh acidity and a chalky, mineral finish of good length. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees.
