Domaine Thillardon makes this natural Gamay in AOC Chénas, the smallest of the Beaujolais crus. Farmed biodynamically on granite at Les Brureaux and aged a year in used oak, it is bright and fruity with raspberry, cherry and a floral lift.
Description
Vibrations is a natural Gamay from Domaine Thillardon in AOC Chénas, the smallest and least known of the Beaujolais crus. The Thillardon brothers have recovered abandoned vineyards in the Les Brureaux sector, farming biodynamically and without added chemistry. Chénas sits on pink granite and decomposed sand, free-draining soils that suit Gamay and give the wine a light frame and a mineral edge. The cool granite and the cru's elevation hold acidity and keep the fruit fresh rather than jammy. Vinification follows the natural approach with minimal intervention, and the wine spends 12 months in used French oak barrels, old enough to add texture and slow oxygen without lending vanilla or toast. The result is a transparent, vivid red. The colour is bright ruby. The nose is floral and fragrant, with raspberry, red cherry and redcurrant over a touch of rose and crushed stone. The palate is light bodied with fresh acidity and fine soft tannins, the fruit pure and the finish clean. Certified organic and vegan. Serve lightly chilled at 14C. Good with charcuterie, roast chicken and pork.
