Description
Domaine Sylvain Bzikot is based in Meursault, in Burgundy's Cote de Beaune, and this Pinot Noir carries the Bourgogne Cote d'Or appellation, a tier reserved for the best village-level fruit along the Cote. The wine is made in the natural style and, unusually for red Burgundy, raised entirely in stainless steel rather than oak. Fermenting and ageing in inert steel keeps the aromatics pure and the fruit primary, showing the grape and the limestone terroir with no wood flavour, oak tannin or vanilla in the way. Burgundy's limestone and clay soils give Pinot Noir its lift and fine texture, and the cool continental climate holds acidity and keeps alcohol moderate, here 13%. The colour is pale, bright ruby. The nose is red cherry, wild strawberry and a touch of rose, with a savoury, earthy undertone. The palate is light and precise, with red currant and rhubarb fruit, silky low tannin and fresh acidity carrying a clean finish. Serve it at 14 to 15C, lightly cool, in a wide Burgundy glass. It suits roast chicken, duck and mushroom dishes.
