Description
Domaine Rolet, founded in 1942 and one of the most recognised names in the Jura, makes this single varietal from Trousseau, an indigenous red grape once dismissed as a blending or table wine variety and now valued for the character it shows on its own. Trousseau is more structured and deeply coloured than the region's Poulsard, giving wines with more grip and spice while staying light in body. The old vines grow on warm, well drained gravel and marl plots that this late ripening grape needs, in the cool continental climate of Arbois where the long season preserves acidity and freshness. The wine is farmed organically and made with minimal intervention and native yeast, with a gentle extraction that keeps the tannin fine. The colour is light ruby. The nose is fresh raspberry and tart cherry with white pepper, redcurrant and an earthy, herbal note. The palate is light to medium bodied, with fine grained tannin, lively acidity and a savoury, peppery finish. Serve cool at 14 to 16 degrees with white meat, game birds or mushroom dishes.
