Description
Domaine Rolet is one of the leading estates of the Jura in eastern France, established in 1942 and farming organic vineyards around Arbois. This wine is a single varietal of Poulsard, a thin skinned, lightly pigmented red grape native to the region that yields pale, fragrant, delicate wines rather than deeply coloured ones. The old vines grow on the Jura's marl and limestone soils in a cool, continental climate with a long, gradual ripening season that preserves acidity and the grape's red fruit aromatics. The wine is made with minimal intervention and native yeast, with a light, gentle extraction that keeps colour and tannin low and the fruit fresh and transparent. The colour is pale, almost translucent ruby. The nose is wild strawberry and redcurrant with grapefruit, rhubarb and a faint earthy, floral note. The palate is light and silky, with very fine tannin, bright acidity and a clean, savoury finish that reflects the limestone. This is a red made to drink cool and young. Serve at 13 to 15 degrees with white meat, charcuterie or grilled fish.
