Description
Papa Rouyo is a young Guadeloupe agricole distillery making pot-still rum from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice, and this Rhum Agricole Vieux 2021 is a three year old selected by independent bottler Domaine Ricci, matured in ex-bourbon oak at full cask strength.
The pot still gives a heavier, more textured spirit than the usual creole column, and three years of tropical ageing brings real oak presence for the age. The nose is woody, fruity, floral and agricole, the palate round, oily, fresh and vegetal, and the finish stays oily and woody with grass and fruit. At a fierce 63.9% it is intense and full-bodied, dry and unsweetened, wanting water to open up. A characterful pot-still agricole that pairs a new estate with a thoughtful independent selection.
