Domaine Perrot-Minot farms a parcel of the celebrated Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin. Biodynamic Pinot Noir from this 15 hectare site, it shows black cherry, spice and a deep, earthy minerality.
Description
Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze is one of the great Grand Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin at the northern end of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, a single plot of around 15 hectares ranked among the finest in the region. Domaine Perrot-Minot, run by Christophe Perrot-Minot, farms this parcel biodynamically. The vineyard lies on limestone and marl with a stony topsoil on a gentle east facing slope, ground that drains freely and pushes the Pinot Noir to low yields of small, concentrated berries, while the cool continental climate and the wide swing from warm days to cold nights preserve acidity and aromatic detail. The wine is aged in oak barrels, the slow exchange of oxygen through the wood softening the tannins and adding spice and complexity without masking the fruit. It is deep ruby, the nose layering black cherry, plum, rose and warm spice over a forest floor earthiness. The palate is full bodied for Burgundy, succulent and powerful, with ripe dark fruit, fine firm tannins and a long, savoury, mineral finish. This is a wine to cellar. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees in a large Burgundy glass and decant if young. It suits game and roast red meats.
