This northern Rhône Syrah comes from vineyards around the edge of Côte Rôtie and Condrieu, made by brothers Patrick and Christophe Bonnefond. Twelve months in French oak give a fresh, fruit-forward red of red berries, black pepper and dark cherry.

Description
Domaine Bonnefond is best known for its Côte Rôtie and Condrieu, but the Bonnefond brothers also make wine from vineyards planted around the edges of these northern Rhône appellations. Sensations du Nord is a Syrah from the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, a category that gives more freedom outside the named crus while keeping the same cool-climate stamp. Patrick and Christophe Bonnefond have farmed the ten hectare family estate since 1990. The Collines Rhodaniennes sites carry the granite and schist influence of the region, soils that drain freely and encourage aromatic, peppery Syrah, while the northern position keeps ripening measured and acidity fresh. The wine spends twelve months in French oak, enough to round the tannins through gentle oxygen exchange while keeping the emphasis on fruit. The colour is bright purple. The nose is lively, with red berries, dark cherry, black pepper and a light smoky note. The palate is medium bodied and juicy, with supple tannins, fresh acidity and a clean, peppery finish. Serve at 16 degrees, in a standard red glass. It pairs well with grilled meats and roast poultry.
