Mée Godard makes this Morgon cru from old Gamay vines in the Corcelette climat of Beaujolais. Farmed biodynamically and aged twelve months in barrel, it is a structured, mineral red with cherry, raspberry and a stony, savoury depth.
Description
Mée Godard has become one of the leading figures in Morgon since acquiring vineyards in this central Beaujolais cru, working her plots by hand and farming biodynamically and organically. This wine comes from the Corcelette climat, whose soils are marked by decomposed granite and sand, giving a lighter, more aromatic and mineral expression of Gamay. The old vines yield small quantities of concentrated fruit, and the cool, continental climate of the cru preserves the bright acidity and red-fruit character that define serious Beaujolais. Vinification follows the Burgundian path rather than the carbonic style of Nouveau, and the wine ages twelve months in barrel, where slow oxygen exchange through the wood rounds the tannins and adds savoury depth while keeping the fruit fresh. The colour is bright ruby. The nose offers cherry and raspberry over crushed stone, black pepper and dried herbs. The palate is structured and mineral, with fine tannins, lively acidity and a long, savoury finish. Serve lightly cool at 14 to 16 degrees with roast pork, poultry, charcuterie or a mushroom dish.
