Domaine François Lamarche makes this organic village Pinot Noir in AOC Nuits-Saint-Georges, on the Côte de Nuits. A deep, vibrant red of cherry, strawberry and floral lift over the earthy structure that defines fine red Burgundy.
Description
Domaine François Lamarche is a long-established grower in AOC Nuits-Saint-Georges, on the Côte d'Or in Burgundy, the appellation whose famed Les Saint-Georges climat gave the town its name. This organic village red is pure Pinot Noir grown on the limestone and marl soils of the Côte de Nuits, where the cool continental climate and well-drained slopes suit the early-ripening grape and give the wine its acidity and finesse. The limestone lends a savoury, mineral edge, while the careful, low-intervention farming keeps the fruit transparent. The wine is aged in oak barrel, allowing slow oxygen exchange that knits the fine tannins together and adds a light spice without masking the fruit. The colour is deep, vibrant red. The nose shows cherry and strawberry with a floral, rose-like lift and an earthy undertone. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant, with red berries, fine tannin, a touch of black pepper and the firm, savoury structure typical of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Serve at 15 to 17 degrees. It pairs with roast duck, game birds, roast chicken and mushroom dishes.
