Description
Domaine Lamarche makes this Hautes Côtes de Nuits from Pinot Noir grown on the higher ground above the Côte de Nuits, in Burgundy. These vineyards lie at greater elevation than the famous slope below, on cooler limestone soils that give a lighter, fresher style of red. The cool 2023 season and the altitude hold the acidity bright and the fruit pure. Nicole Lamarche farms organically, and the wine is fermented and raised in French oak barrels, with a light touch of wood and a gentle élevage that keeps the fruit in front. This is the more open and approachable face of the estate, built for early drinking rather than long cellaring. It is bright ruby and light on its feet, leading on black cherry and blackberry with a floral, herbal lift, a hint of red berries and a fine mineral edge, carried by fresh acidity and soft, fine tannins. Serve lightly cool at 14 to 16 degrees, with roast chicken, grilled salmon or a charcuterie board.
