Description
Domaine Lamarche makes this Échézeaux Grand Cru in Vosne-Romanée, where the family has farmed since 1797. Échézeaux is a Grand Cru of the Côte de Nuits, neighbouring Clos de Vougeot, on limestone and clay soils with good drainage that give Pinot Noir its depth and finesse. Nicole Lamarche farms organically, and the cool 2023 season preserves bright acidity and aromatic detail. The grapes are fermented and aged for around 16 months in French oak barrels, with a measured share of new wood and a long, gentle élevage that builds layers of texture while the terroir leads. The result is a deep, complex Pinot Noir. It is bright ruby, offering ripe red and dark cherry, raspberry, violet and rose over a fine earthy, mineral base, with subtle spice from the oak, silky tannins and a long, lifted finish. The wine has the structure to age well for many years. Serve at 16 degrees, in a large glass, with roast duck, beef fillet or truffle and mushroom dishes.
