Domaine Lafage blends Grenache Gris, Grenache and Mourvèdre for this organic rosé from the Côtes Catalanes in Roussillon. Pale and fresh, it shows strawberry, raspberry and white peach over a saline, herbal lift.
Description
Domaine Lafage works in the Côtes Catalanes of Roussillon, in the far south of France near the Spanish border, and Miraflors is its well-known pale rosé. The blend leads with Grenache Gris, a pink-skinned mutation that gives delicate aromatics and a saline freshness, supported by Grenache and Mourvèdre. The Roussillon climate is warm and dry with strong Mediterranean sunshine, tempered here by coastal and mountain influence and the windswept garrigue scrubland that marks the wines with dried herbs and minerality. The grapes are picked to retain freshness, then given a brief skin contact to set the pale colour before a cool, protective fermentation keeps the aromatics bright and the style crisp. The wine is pale pink, with aromas of strawberry, raspberry and white peach lifted by a floral, herbal note. The palate is dry and fresh, with bright acidity, a saline mineral seam and a clean, persistent finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It works well as an aperitif and suits grilled prawns, sea bass, herb salads and fresh goats cheese.
