Description
Domaine Lafage Cabirau La Grande Cuvee is an organic white from AOC Cotes-du-Roussillon in the south of France, a blend of Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris and Macabeo assembled from different plots and microclimates across the domaine's holdings. Roussillon is a warm Mediterranean region backed by mountains, and its poor schist and limestone soils, low rainfall and abundant sun ripen these southern varieties to a rich, stone-fruit character, while cooling influences from the hills and the sea preserve freshness. The wine is aged for nine months in concrete tanks. Concrete allows a slow micro-oxygenation through the porous walls and holds a stable temperature during ageing, so the wine gains texture and roundness while the neutral vessel keeps the fruit clean and free of oak flavour, and time on the lees adds further weight. The colour is bright gold. The nose shows white peach, apricot and citrus over orange peel, white flowers and a waxy note. The palate is broad and mineral, with ripe stone and orchard fruit, a saline edge and fresh acidity carrying the finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It suits white fish, shellfish and poultry.
