Description
Domaine Jules Desjourneys is Fabien Duperray's Beaujolais estate, and Sacré Graal is drawn from Les Moriers and La Chapelle des Bois, two of his favourite Fleurie vineyards. The vines are old, over 80 years, planted on the steepest slopes in the region at around 340 metres, the highest in Beaujolais. The soils are granite rich in pink quartz; these free-draining, mineral soils and the altitude give Fleurie its perfume and finesse, holding freshness and encouraging the floral aromatics the cru is known for. The old vines and low-intervention cellar work keep the fruit pure and detailed. The wine is a bright carmine red with a fruity, floral nose of violet, lily, peach, redcurrant and red fruits. The palate is ripe and juicy with fresh acidity, silky texture and gentle tannins over a long, perfumed finish. This is Gamay at its most elegant and floral rather than heavy. Serve lightly cool at 14 to 15 degrees. It suits roast poultry, lighter game and pork.
