Description
Domaine Jules Desjourneys is Fabien Duperray's Beaujolais estate, and this bottling comes from Chapelle des Bois, one of the named lieux-dits of the Fleurie cru. Fleurie lies in the north of Beaujolais and is prized for depth and elegance. The vineyards sit on steep granite slopes rich in pink quartz at some of the highest altitudes in the region; the free-draining, mineral soils and cool elevation preserve acidity and give the cru its hallmark perfume and finesse. Duperray works the old vines with low intervention and reductive handling that keeps the fruit clean and detailed. With more than a decade in bottle since 2011, the wine has developed savoury, earthy complexity alongside its fruit. It shows a bright red colour and a fragrant nose of cherry and red fruit over dried flowers and a gentle earthiness. The palate is elegant and fine-textured, with fresh acidity, soft tannins and a long, perfumed finish that shows the poise of aged cru Beaujolais. Serve lightly cool at 15 degrees. It suits roast poultry, game birds and pork.
