Description
Domaine Jean Grivot has worked the great terroirs of Vosne-Romanée for over two hundred years, with Mathilde Grivot now leading the estate. Aux Brûlées is a Premier Cru above the village, its name a nod to the warm, sun-exposed slope; the limestone and marl soils and excellent aspect ripen Pinot Noir fully while the cool continental climate preserves acidity and detail. The result is a wine with both ripeness and finesse, carrying the perfume Vosne-Romanée is known for. The grapes are organically grown, fermented and aged for eighteen months in French oak barrels, where gentle oxygen exchange softens the tannins and adds a spiced, savoury frame without covering the fruit. The wine is bright ruby, with a nose of red cherry, raspberry and rose over a faint smokiness, earth and oak. The palate is silky and precise, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a long, mineral finish. Serve at 16 degrees, decanted ahead, with game birds, beef or earthy mushroom dishes.
