Description
Domaine Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Charmois is a red from the Côte d'Or in Burgundy, made from Pinot Noir. Mathilde Grivot is the third generation to run the estate, which has more than two hundred years of history, and she works the vines meticulously to draw out the character of the site. Nuits-Saint-Georges sits on limestone and marl with clay, soils that give Pinot Noir firm structure, red fruit definition and a savoury, earthy edge, while the region's cool continental climate and short growing season keep the acidity high and the fruit precise. The wine spends eighteen months in French oak, which softens the tannin through gentle oxygen exchange and adds fine spice without covering the fruit. Colour is medium ruby. The nose shows red cherry and berries with rose and an earthy note, and the palate is medium bodied and fresh, with fine tannin, mineral drive and a savoury, lingering finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees in a wide bowled glass. It suits roast duck and game birds.
