Description
Domaine Jean Grivot is run by Mathilde Grivot, following her father Étienne and grandfather Jean, from the family base in Vosne-Romanée. Les Pruliers is a Premier Cru in Nuits-Saint-Georges, a commune known for sturdier, more structured Pinot Noir than its neighbours. The vineyard sits on clay and limestone with a stony, gravelly content that drains well and adds firmness to the wine. The cool continental climate ripens the fruit slowly, holding acidity and building the robust tannins that characterise the village. The grapes are organically farmed, fermented and aged for eighteen months in French oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange rounds the tannins and adds a savoury, spiced frame while keeping the fruit central. The 2020 vintage adds concentration and depth. The wine is deep ruby, with a nose of dark cherry, plum and black pepper over earth, leather and oak. The palate is firm and structured, with grippy tannins, fresh acidity and a long, savoury finish that needs time. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees, decanted well ahead, with roast and braised red meats.
