Domaine Jean Grivot make this Bourgogne Pinot Noir from vines around Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Eighteen months in French oak give a bright, savoury red of red cherry, raspberry and gentle earth.
Description
Domaine Jean Grivot is a family estate with three centuries of history in Vosne-Romanée, now run by Mathilde Grivot with a careful, sustainable approach in the vineyard. This Bourgogne Rouge comes from younger vines and parcels around the Côte de Nuits, made with the same attention as the estate's grander wines, which gives it more depth than the appellation usually offers. The limestone and clay soils and cool continental climate ripen Pinot Noir slowly, holding fresh acidity and the grape's bright red fruit. The grapes are sustainably grown, fermented and aged for eighteen months in French oak barrels, where gentle oxygen exchange softens the tannins and adds a light, savoury frame without overwhelming the fruit. The wine is bright ruby, with a nose of red cherry, raspberry and red currant over earth, rose and a touch of oak. The palate is fresh and supple, with soft tannins, lively acidity and a clean, savoury finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, with roast chicken, charcuterie or mushroom dishes.
