Description
Domaine Gramenon, founded in 1978, is one of the leading names of the southern Rhône, known for natural wines made without added sulphites or filtration so that the grapes and terroir speak clearly. Vie On y Est is a white blend of Viognier and Clairette from Côtes du Rhône vineyards, many of them old. The region's warm, dry Mediterranean climate and stony, clay-limestone soils ripen these southern grapes fully, while cooler nights and the mistral wind keep the wine fresh and healthy. Viognier brings ripe stonefruit and perfume, Clairette adds a lighter, herbal freshness and acidity to balance it. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and given a short six months in French oak, enough to build a little texture without leaving obvious woodspice, so the fruit and floral character lead. Made naturally, it can show a faint cloudiness. It is pale gold. The nose is fragrant, with white peach, apricot and pear over white flowers and a touch of honey, and the palate is soft and medium bodied, the ripe fruit balanced by a fresh, lightly herbal acidity and a clean finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
Additional information
Good with roast chicken, grilled white fish and pork with apple. The ripe stonefruit and gentle texture also suit roasted root vegetables and mildly spiced dishes.
