Description
Domaine des Moriers is the work of a group of friends, including growers Arnaud Combier and François de Nicolay, farming small parcels across the Beaujolais communes of Lancié, Fleurie, Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent. This Beaujolais-Villages is pure Gamay, farmed biodynamically and made as naturally as possible. Beaujolais is granite country, and Gamay grown on those free-draining pink granite and sandy soils keeps its bright acidity and red-fruit perfume. The style depends on the winemaking: whole-cluster fermentation in the semi-carbonic manner, where uncrushed grapes begin fermenting inside their skins, extracts colour and vivid fruit with very little tannin, which is what gives the wine its juicy freshness. It then spent around six months in oak, just enough to round the texture while leaving the fruit to the fore. The colour is bright and light, the nose full of raspberry, cherry and red currant lifted by pepper and a floral note; the palate is light bodied and fresh, the tannins soft, the finish clean and gently earthy. Serve it lightly chilled at 13 to 14 degrees. It suits charcuterie, pork and roast poultry.
