The Clape family make this Crozes-Hermitage from Syrah in the northern Rhône of France. Aged twelve months in barrel, it is a peppery, savoury red of dark berries and plum with the smoky, herbal edge typical of cool-climate northern Rhône Syrah.

Description
Domaine des Entrefaux is a family estate run by the Clape family in Crozes-Hermitage, the largest appellation of the northern Rhône in France and a source of pure Syrah. This organically farmed wine comes from the appellation's mix of granite slopes and alluvial terraces of rounded stones and clay, soils that store daytime heat and drain well, helping Syrah ripen in a cooler continental climate while keeping its natural pepper and freshness. Northern Rhône Syrah at this moderate ripeness shows savoury rather than jammy fruit. The wine ages twelve months in barrel, where slow oxygen exchange through the wood softens the grape's firm tannins and adds a light smoky spice. The colour is deep purple. The nose is marked by black pepper, dark berries, plum and cured olive over woodsmoke and dried herbs. The palate is medium-bodied and structured, with fresh acidity, fine peppery tannins and a savoury, leathery finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees, decanted briefly. It suits roast beef, lamb and game.
