Domaine de Séverin VO

Domaine de Severin is a Guadeloupe agricole distillery, and this VO is a young aged cane-juice rum, distilled on a column still under the Guadeloupe IGP. It sits at the accessible end of the range, a soft and simple bottling rather than a showpiece, and it is fair to say it prioritises easy drinking over depth.

The nose is the most appealing part, fruity, floral and flowery, while the palate turns sweet and a little synthetic, with vanilla, grass and a peppery edge, the finish carrying that same sweet vanilla and wood. It reads as a synthesis of the house style, smoother than a fierce blanc but without the character a more serious vieux would bring. Bottled at 40%, it is a gentle, undemanding agricole, comfortable as a casual sipper or mixer for those who like their cane rum soft and sweet-leaning rather than dry and grassy.
