Domaine de Montille makes this Bourgogne Rouge from Pinot Noir grown in Volnay and Puligny-Montrachet, farmed biodynamically. Twelve months in French oak gives a fine, elegant red with red cherry, redcurrant and an earthy Burgundian core.
Description
Domaine de Montille Bourgogne Rouge is a varietal Pinot Noir from AOC Bourgogne, made by the Volnay based Domaine de Montille. The fruit comes from a one hectare plot in Volnay, in a place known as Les Longbois, together with vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet. This is a regional Burgundy made with the same care the domaine gives its Premier and Grand Crus, and the estate farms biodynamically, working the soils without synthetic treatments. Burgundy's limestone and clay soils and cool continental climate are the classic ground for Pinot Noir, a thin skinned grape that gives pale colour, bright acidity and delicate red fruit rather than weight. The wine ages twelve months in French oak, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannins and adds a light spice and savoury frame. The 2023 is pale to medium ruby, with red cherry, redcurrant and wild strawberry over a floral rose note, fresh earth and a touch of oak. The palate is light to medium at 12.5 percent, with crisp acidity, fine tannins and an elegant, savoury finish. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees in a large glass. A classic with roast duck, poultry and mushrooms.
