Description
Domaine de Marcoux is a long-established family estate in the southern Rhône, farmed biodynamically by sisters Catherine and Sophie Armenier and best known for its Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This Côtes-du-Rhône is made from Grenache, the southern Rhône's workhorse grape, grown on the warm, stony soils of the region. The Mediterranean climate and abundant sunshine ripen Grenache to a generous, fruit-driven style at 14 percent, while biodynamic farming aims at a clear expression of the site. The wine is raised in concrete rather than oak, an inert vessel that preserves the bright primary fruit and gives a rounded texture without adding wood spice. The colour is bright ruby. The nose is open and ripe, with red berry and plum over garrigue, dried herbs and a peppery, liquorice-edged spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied and warming, with supple tannin, juicy fruit and a savoury, herbal finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It is an everyday southern Rhône red for grilled meat and herb-driven cooking.
