Description
This is a Pinot Noir from Domaine de l'Arlot, made under the Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru appellation in the Côte d'Or in Burgundy. The fruit comes from a small plot in Les Suchots, planted in 1950, an area marked by millerandage, where uneven fruit set produces small, seedless berries that raise the skin-to-juice ratio and deepen concentration. Vosne-Romanée is home to some of the world's finest terroirs, and its limestone and marl soils, worked sustainably here, give Pinot Noir its precision, perfume and savoury cut. The cool continental climate ripens the grape slowly, holding bright acidity and aromatic lift. The wine ages 12 months in French oak, where measured oxygen exchange rounds the fine tannins while leaving the fruit clear. The colour is bright, limpid ruby. In youth the nose offers floral notes with raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant, gaining earth and spice with age. The palate is medium bodied and silky, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a long, savoury, mineral finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, with roast duck, game birds or mushroom dishes.
