Domaine de la Vougeraie makes this organic and biodynamic Bourgogne Pinot Noir from its Burgundy holdings. Aged mostly in barrel with a month in steel, it shows fresh cherry, raspberry and an earthy, floral lift.
Description
Bourgogne Pinot Noir Terres de Famille comes from Domaine de la Vougeraie, the Burgundy estate based at Premeaux-Prissey that Jean-Charles Boisset consolidated from his family's holdings in 1990. It is made from Pinot Noir, the grape that finds its clearest expression on Burgundy's limestone and marl slopes, and the vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically. Burgundy's cool continental climate and calcareous soils ripen Pinot Noir slowly, giving the fresh red fruit, fine tannin and earthy detail that mark the variety, while the certified biodynamic farming aims to express the site as faithfully as possible. The wine is aged around ten months in oak barrel with a further month in stainless steel, the barrel adding a light spice frame and rounding the texture through gentle oxygen exchange while the steel keeps the finish fresh and precise. It is bright ruby, with a nose of fresh cherry and raspberry lifted by a floral, rose-petal note over an earthy, savoury base. The palate is light to medium bodied and elegant at 12.5% alcohol, with fine tannins, bright acidity and a clean, mineral finish. Serve at 15 to 16C, ideally from a wide glass, with poultry, game birds and mushroom dishes.
