Description
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti is one of Burgundy's most storied estates, holding an unrivalled collection of Grand Cru vineyards in the Cote d'Or, including two monopoles. This wine comes from the Romanee-Conti vineyard itself, farmed biodynamically and planted with Pinot Noir on the limestone and clay soils of the Cote de Nuits. The site sits mid slope with ideal drainage and exposure, and the cool continental climate with its wide day to night temperature swing preserves acidity and the aromatic detail that defines the wine. Very low yields concentrate flavour in the fruit. Fermentation is followed by twelve months in French oak, a portion new, which rounds the tannin and adds a fine spiced frame through slow oxygen exchange, while malolactic fermentation softens the acidity and builds texture. The colour is pure, medium ruby. The nose is complex, with red berries, violet and exotic spice over forest floor. The palate is fine and layered, with silky tannin, bright acidity and remarkable length. Serve at 16 degrees, decanted, in a large Burgundy glass. It suits game birds and refined meat dishes.
