Description
Domaine de la Pinte is a family estate now in its second generation, farming 34 hectares mainly on blue marl soils at around 400 metres in Arbois and Pupillin, organic since 1999 and biodynamic since 2009. Pinte Bien is a monovarietal Poulsard, one of the Jura's signature red grapes. Poulsard is a very lightly pigmented variety, so its wines are pale in colour and delicate in body, more about perfume and freshness than power. The blue marl, a dense clay-limestone, retains moisture and lends the wine its cool, saline mineral line, while the altitude keeps the fruit crisp and the alcohol low. The wine is aged six months in foudres, large neutral casks that let it settle and round out without wood flavour. Expect a pale, translucent red with wild strawberry, cranberry and red cherry, a floral note and an earthy, faintly saline finish. Tannins are light and the acidity is fresh. Serve lightly cool at 13 to 14 degrees. It suits charcuterie, poultry and lighter meats.
