Domaine de La Janasse is a Châteauneuf neighbour and Rhône benchmark. This Côtes du Rhône rosé leads with Grenache alongside Cinsault, Syrah and Counoise, giving ripe red fruit, a peppery edge and a generous, fruit driven palate.
Description
Domaine de La Janasse is a family estate founded in 1973 at Courthézon, near Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and now one of the southern Rhône's reference producers. This Côtes du Rhône rosé is a blend led by Grenache, with Cinsault, Syrah and Counoise filling out the wine. The southern Rhône has a warm Mediterranean climate, with the Mistral wind keeping the vineyards healthy and dry, and stony soils of clay, sand and the region's characteristic rolled pebbles that store daytime heat and ripen the fruit fully. Grenache brings ripe red fruit and roundness, Syrah a peppery, darker edge, Cinsault freshness and Counoise lift. The grapes take brief skin contact for colour before a cool fermentation in stainless steel that holds the fruit fresh. The colour is a bright, medium pink. The nose shows ripe strawberry and cherry with white peach and a peppery, herbal southern Rhône note. The palate is generous and fruit driven, with ripe red fruit, a savoury spice edge and enough acidity to finish dry. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It suits grilled meats, poultry and richer fish.
