A young Guadeloupe agricole bottled by Domaine de Bel Air under the Marie Louise name, distilled by Carrere from fresh cane juice, aged sous bois and poured at 49% from the 2023 vintage.
Description
This Marie Louise bottling comes from Carrere on Guadeloupe, selected by Domaine de Bel Air, and carries the 2023 vintage with two years of age. Élevé sous bois marks it as the ambré tier, oak-rested but young, and at 49% it sits above standard strength. Guadeloupe falls under the looser IGP rather than the Martinique AOC, though this remains a fresh cane juice rum.
Short ageing in ex-bourbon oak tends to leave the spirit close to its grassy, vegetal roots while adding a light layer of vanilla and toast. Expect the snap of fresh cane and white pepper carried by that early oak, dry rather than sweet, at a proof that keeps the cane character bright. A lively pour for a Ti Punch or a stirred drink.
