Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc comes from the Wairau Valley in Marlborough, from organically farmed vines on silty clay loam. Fermented in stainless steel, it is a vivid, dry white with lemon, green apple and an elderflower lift.
Description
Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc is from Marlborough, on New Zealand's South Island, made by the winery founded in 2002 in the Wairau Valley. The fruit comes from the estate's own vineyards, planted on silty clay loam and farmed organically. Marlborough's cool, sunny maritime climate and its large day-to-night temperature swing are what give the region's Sauvignon Blanc its bright acidity and pungent, herbal aromatics. The wine is fermented and held for four months in stainless steel with no oak, a protective, reductive approach that locks in those aromatics and keeps the wine crisp and precise. It is pale straw with a green tint. The nose is vivid, with lemon, green apple and white peach lifted by elderflower and a fresh herbal note. The palate is dry and taut, with citrus-peel drive, a saline mineral streak and a clean, zesty finish. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees in a standard white glass. It is a natural aperitif and a fine match for shellfish, fresh goats' cheese and green salads.
