Dobledeperez makes En Contacto in Murcia’s D.O. Jumilla from Verdejo. Four months on the lees follow skin contact, giving a fresh, lightly gripped orange wine of citrus peel, white peach and green apple with a saline edge.
Description
Dobledeperez makes En Contacto in the D.O. Jumilla, in Murcia in southeast Spain, from Verdejo, the aromatic white grape more often associated with Rueda. The wine is natural, farmed under respectful, sustainable agriculture. As the name suggests, this is an orange wine, made with skin contact so that the juice macerates on the grape skins, drawing a light tannic grip and the golden tint, followed by four months on the lees. The relatively short lees ageing and gentle maceration keep the wine on the fresh, lifted side of the style, while Verdejo's natural herbal, faintly bitter character adds savoury length. Jumilla's continental climate, with hot days and cool nights at altitude, preserves acidity in the fruit and keeps the wine balanced despite the warm region. The wine is golden, with aromas of citrus peel, white peach and green apple lifted by white flowers and dried herbs. The palate is dry and lightly textured, with a fine skin grip, a saline freshness and a clean herbal finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits white fish, shellfish and roast chicken, and makes a good aperitif.
