Dobledeperez Camaleonica is a natural Monastrell from D.O. Jumilla in Murcia, made by three Perez brothers. Six months in barrel and clay jar leave ripe plum, dark cherry, pepper and a wild, herbal edge.
Description
Dobledeperez is the venture of three Perez brothers working family land in Jumilla, in the warm southeast of Spain. Camaleonica is built on Monastrell, the region's signature variety, which thrives on the poor limestone soils and arid, sun-baked continental climate, ripening to full sugars and developing dark fruit and firm structure. This is a natural wine, made with minimal intervention and minimal added sulphur, so the character of the site and the vintage comes through directly. It ages for six months split between oak barrels and clay jars, the amphora portion keeping the fruit fresh and the texture supple while the barrel rounds the tannins, with little of the heavy oak signature found in more conventional Jumilla reds. The colour is deep and saturated. The nose shows ripe plum and dark cherry with black pepper, liquorice and a wild, herbal note. The palate is full bodied and warming, with ripe fruit, earthy depth and supple tannins running to a savoury finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It suits grilled and roasted meat.
