DIT Celler Selenita Blanc is an organic orange wine from Terra Alta, the project of Dani Sánchez Nogué. Macabeo and Garnacha Blanca spend six months on their lees, giving a textured, citrus and orchard fruit wine with a light skin contact grip and a savoury edge.
Description
DIT Celler is the personal project of Dani Sánchez Nogué in southern Catalonia, within D.O. Terra Alta. The name means finger in Catalan, a nod to individuality, and the wines are made organically and as natural wines. Selenita Blanc is a brisat, the Catalan term for a skin contact white, blending Macabeo and Garnacha Blanca, two grapes native to the region. The juice macerates on its skins to pick up colour and phenolic texture, then ages six months on its lees. Lees ageing means the wine rests on the spent yeast cells, which slowly release mannoproteins that add body and a soft, savoury depth while protecting the wine from oxidation. Combined with the gentle skin contact, this gives more weight and grip than a conventional white without heavy tannin. Terra Alta is a high, dry inland zone where Garnacha Blanca thrives, the altitude preserving freshness. The wine shows a pale amber colour, a nose of citrus peel, green apple and apricot lifted by white flowers and dried herbs, and a palate that is dry, textured and lightly saline with an almond and beeswax note on the finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It suits white fish and shellfish well.
