A fruit-forward Foursquare single cask from the 2005 vintage, coconut, tropical fruit and caramel over gentle wood with a peppery, dried-fruit finish, matured in ex-bourbon and bottled unsweetened at cask strength, 58%, by Distilia.
Description
Distilia bottle this Foursquare single cask from the 2005 vintage in their Golden Age of Piracy series, drawing on Richard Seale's St Philip distillery in Barbados. At fifteen years, unsweetened and 58%, it sits comfortably in the classic Foursquare lane while leaning a touch richer and fruitier, with no added sugar, colour or flavouring.
The pot-and-column spirit was matured in ex-bourbon oak. The nose is warm and inviting with coconut, caramel, dried fruit and tropical fruit, the palate carries coconut and tropical fruit alongside caramel and gentle wood, and the finish dries out a little into dried fruit, spice and a peppery edge. The strength is well integrated and the profile sweet-leaning without any additives, just ripe fruit and oak. This is an easy, characterful Barbados rum at full power, best after a little air, well suited to drinkers who enjoy the warmer, fruitier side of Foursquare.
