Diplomatico, sold as Botucal across much of Europe, is the Reserva Exclusiva from Destilerias Unidas in Venezuela, a country whose protected ron tradition prizes smoothness and approachability above heavy molasses bite. Unusually for the style it draws on sugar cane honey, concentrated cane juice that carries more aromatic weight than ordinary molasses, distilled on a mix of pot and column stills rather than a single light column.

The profile runs to vanilla, caramel, soft raisin and a cocoa edge on the finish, with the wood doing much of the work over a gentle, low-proof spirit. This is a sweetened rum and reads that way, closer to an after-dinner pour than a dry sipper, though the dosage has been eased back in recent years to sit within European limits. For a palate that enjoys honeyed texture and an easy entry into aged rum it makes a comfortable starting point; drinkers who have moved toward drier, higher-proof bottles will find it gentle.
