The Diplomatico Distillery Collection No. 1 Single Batch Kettle Rum showcases the pot still side of Destilerias Unidas in Venezuela, drawn from sugar cane honey rather than straight molasses. Where the core range stays soft and rounded, this expression pushes a little harder, both in proof at 47% and in oak presence, aimed at drinkers who like the house sweetness but want more grip.
The nose is woody and warm with caramel and vanilla over a spirity lift, and the palate carries vanilla, caramel and nougat wrapped in oak, with spice and a clear thread of alcohol heat. The finish turns slightly bitter and fruity. It stays on the sweet side in the Diplomatico manner, so it is best read as a comfort pour rather than an analytical one, happiest beside a cigar.
