Description
Dievole Petrignano Chianti Classico is a Sangiovese from the Chianti Classico zone in Tuscany, grown on the geological formation of Monte Morello. Sangiovese is the backbone of Chianti Classico, and the area's stony, calcareous soils with a continental climate and warm days cooled by altitude give the grape its hallmark high acidity, savoury fruit and firm tannins rather than weight for its own sake. The estate farms organically. The wine was aged for 13 months in barrel, enough to soften the tannins through slow oxygen exchange and add a light savoury complexity while keeping the fruit fresh and the regional character clear. The colour is bright ruby. The nose is classic Chianti, with cherry and red berry fruit over dried herbs, a touch of tobacco and an earthy edge. The palate is savoury and balanced, with fresh acidity, fine, slightly grippy tannins and a finish of plum and leather. It is approachable now and will hold for several years. Serve at 16 to 18C. The acidity makes it a natural partner for tomato-based dishes and grilled meats.
