Description
Dictador's Rima series draws on long aged Colombian rum from Destilería Colombiana, molasses based and column distilled in the soft Spanish style where the cask defines the character. This Rima 1 is a single cask from a 2000 vintage, sitting among the more accessibly aged releases in the house lineup.
Twenty two years in ex-bourbon wood gives a sweet, rounded profile. Sweetness, wood, roasted notes and ripe fruit open the nose, leading into a palate that stays sweet and light bodied with more wood and an overripe fruit edge, before a finish of wood, coffee, chocolate and sweetness. As with most of the Dictador range these rums lean to the sweet side, and the sugar status here is undeclared. At 43% it is an easy, mellow sipper, a coffee and chocolate tinged take on aged Colombian ron for drinkers who enjoy the soft house signature.
