Dictador’s Rima 1 1999 carries a 23-year-old Colombian with candied orange and vanilla on the nose, the palate turning spicy with cinnamon and oak before a dry, chocolate-edged finish, a composed ex-bourbon sipper at 45%.
Description
Rima 1 1999 is part of Dictador's vintage-dated range from Destileria Colombiana, a 1999 Colombian rum aged twenty-three years in ex-bourbon wood. It is a column-distilled molasses spirit shaped by long tropical maturation rather than by a solera, presented at a slightly fuller strength than the brand's standard releases.
The aroma opens bright and appealing with candied orange, vanilla, roasted notes and candied fruit, an inviting lift for an old rum. The palate shifts toward spice, cinnamon and oak carrying a soft, rounded body, and the finish turns dry with chocolate, spice and wood. At 45% it is balanced and composed, the orange-and-vanilla sweetness of the nose tempered by a drier, spicier palate, making for a Colombian single-vintage sipper that holds interest from first nose to last sip.
