A nineteen-year Colombian single cask from Dictador’s Párrafo series, sweet cherry and berry fruit over chocolate, with woody spice and vanilla on the palate and a sweet caramel close at 41%.
Description
Dictador is Colombia's best-known rum house, working in a solera-leaning style from its Cartagena base, and this Párrafo I Borbón is a 2003 vintage single cask aged nineteen years in ex-bourbon. Column-distilled and bottled at 41%, it shows the rich, sweet-edged Colombian character the brand is known for, fruit and cocoa to the fore.
The nose is light and round, cherry and berry fruit over a soft chocolate note with a hint of caramel. The palate is oily and sweet, cherries and spice joined by light wood, a touch of leather and vanilla. The finish stays sweet, chocolate and caramel over a woody base. Dictador's house style carries a clear sweetness, so this reads as a rounded, dessert-leaning sipper rather than a dry, spirit-forward one, well suited to drinkers who enjoy fruit-led Colombian rum with a generous, easygoing sweetness.
