Description
This is among the older Obra single casks from Dictador, a Colombian house known for a solera-leaning style of coffee, cocoa, vanilla and dried fruit. Drawn from a 1995 vintage and carrying 28 years, the base molasses rum from Destileria Colombiana has spent a long stretch in oak before a finishing period in port casks. Bottled at 46% from a single cask, the firmer proof should hold up the red-fruit sweetness and darker berry notes the port wood brings, over a roasted, oak-driven core. Long-aged tropical rum like this tends to carry plenty of wood character, so expect a dry, slightly smoky and resinous edge alongside the fruit rather than pure sweetness.
